On the following map you can see the three pyramids & the Sphinx at Giza . The ancient Egyptians  built the Pyramids as tombs to bury the dead kings . The Sphinx had a head of a man & a body of a lion looking at the East which represents the beginning of life . On the map also you can see Thebes , Luxor today , which represents the capital of ancient Egypt . In Thebes there are some of the most famous temples in the world such as Karnak & Luxor temples . If you go south to Aswan you can visit Abu Simbel as well .
